I like Scotty but that video about how to test the coolant for gases is outdated due to the fact that we no longer have radiator caps and it's near impossible to find those kits. The cap is suppose to relieve pressure when the system pressure gets to hot or to high. If the cap isn't holding pressure properly it could cause a problem. If you think you have any problem, I would replace the coolant overflow reservoir cap. If the level is fine and the temp is fine you should be in good shape. If so, drive another 10 minutes and check it again. You want to know that the level is still between the marks. Then drive the car for 10 minutes and pull over and check it while the car is running. If it's over the max mark, get some out of there to get it below the max mark. Make sure the level is no less than the minimum mark, if it is, add enough to get it to the minimum mark. The first i would do is check your coolant while the car is COLD. Then she came home from college and I checked it out, unfortionatley after she let it over heat once (the needle got up to the red for a few seconds before she got the car pulled over and turned it off). This progressively got worse, little by little. My daughter was adding coolant all the time, maybe every third week (200 miles). Three minutes into the drive, when the car warmed up, the light went out. When we stopped, the tank was full, but when the car was cold, the level was low and caused the "low coolant light" to come on (in the dash) as soon as it was started. What was happening with our car is the coolant tank cap was letting coolant escape while driving. We just went through this with our S70 GLT.
